Qualification combination purposes

These qualifications are based on the Care Certificate Standards and develop the knowledge and skills needed when working in adult social care settings in England. They are designed for all learners working in adult social care and is being introduced to the sector to:

  • Raise the level of knowledge and skills in the workforce and improve skills gaps within the sector by supporting more employers to access a recognised qualification
  • Improve portability and reduce the need for repeat training and assessment when people move roles
  • Standardise how the Care Certificate Standards are delivered across settings
  • Ensure members of the care workforce feel recognised, valued, and invested in
  • Ensure the workforce has the support they need to provide safe and effective care
  • Allow care workers to experience rewarding careers with opportunities to develop and progress, both now and in the future

Qualifications Aim

  • To focus on the study of the care worker or senior care worker in an adult social care setting
  • To focus on the study of mental health, and mental wellbeing
  • To offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • To provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

Course objectives

  • To enable learners to build knowledge and skills to work in adult social care settings
  • To enable learners to demonstrate understanding and effective practice of the agreed set of standards that define the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of specific job roles in the health and social care sector
  • To increase learners’ understanding of mental health and the causes of mental ill-health

Who are they suitable for?

Anyone who wants to work in adult health and social care.

How many credits are required to complete the combined qualifications?

  • To achieve the Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate, you must achieve a total of 35 credits from 15 mandatory units
     
  • To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness, you must achieve a total of 13 credits from the mandatory units

How are the qualifications assessed?

The assessment will consist of two components one for each qualification: internally assessed portfolio of evidence, assessed by us (your course tutor or assessor) and externally quality assured by the awarding body NCFE.

Do you need to be working to take this course?

Yes.  A work setting is required for the collection of portfolios of evidence for both qualifications.

But if you are not working, you must find a work placement or volunteering role in a health and social care setting (before starting the course). You will be required to spend a minimum of 40 hours to be able to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

Minimum Age

You must be 19 years old.
